University Research

As I review the research the G11 students have done, I find the common thread (like every year) is rank. While I want my students to get into the universities they love, I have to be realistic about their abilities and the selectivity of specific schools. This, unfortunately, makes me the bad guy sometimes. I try to frame it encouragingly and have other options that are suitable replacements for selective schools like Columbia University. I ensure it is a strong school in the area the student wants to major in. I can do this by talking with different universities, having universities present to my students, and doing my own research.

I meet with all of my students individually, express any concerns I have, give other university options, and answer any questions they may have about researching universities. I start this process now so that over the summer and into the fall, students can narrow down their list to schools that are selective and best fit for their needs.
