Parent Communication

One of the essential things counselors do is communicate with parents. There is not a lot we can do without parent buy-in. I have to work with parents to have students see psychologists or other doctors or work with them on university lists.

This year I focused on parent presentations, which helped improve parent trust in my work. I also send out a periodic newsletter for the G11-12 parents to keep them updated on where their students are at in their applications. I also send it out in the Counseling Departments Official WeChat as parents may not regularly check their emails.

One improvement area would be a more parent-driven presentation, where they select the topics they want me to cover. I held a parent presentation for South Korean universities, and parents were very appreciative.
